2023-2024 Student Activities

As you all know the future of ASHRAE lies in our young upcoming leaders. One of the most effective ways of introducing ASHRAE and HVAC engineering is to our college and community college students. Our chapter has strong student advisors that help mentor students and expose them to the ASHRAE community.

The local chapter supports the students in multiple ways. We hold networking events, resume workshops, post job opportunities, and we even have a Hawaii chapter Kokua student scholarship that is disbursed annually. The ASHRAE student membership is even covered by the Hawaii Chapter!

We want to encourage our membership to do presentations before K-12 students about the engineering profession. If you would like to make yourself available or if you know of opportunities where speakers are needed, please let us know.

Our Student Activities Committee will be coordinating with the chapter membership committee to work on upgrading graduating student members through the Society’s excellent program to assist student members for the first couple of years as they join the work force. One of the keys to this program is that the student member must be paid-in-full and not delinquent in order to take advantage of this transfer rate. The program allows for reduced annual dues for the first three years of ASHRAE membership. The dues schedule is as follows:

  • First year after college: $20.00
  • Second year after college: $50.00
  • Third year after college: $50.00

Even at the reduced membership price, the new transfers receive the same benefits as an Associate Member. We will direct the student to [email protected] and have them provide the following information:

  • Name and member number
  • Updated physical address
  • Updated phone number
  • Updated email address
  • Handbook preference (I-P or SI)

This should be a valuable program for graduating student members. We are writing the employers to make sure that these new graduates are aware of the program so that they don’t miss out on this tremendous opportunity.
